Almonds are a rich source of healthy fats, fiber, protein, magnesium and vitamin E. There are several health benefits of almonds including lower blood sugar levels, reduced blood pressure and managed cholesterol levels. They in turn also help in cutting down hunger and promoting weight loss.
According to a recent study, a consumption of these high-carbohydrate snacks may help in improving appetite regulating hormones. The study was recently published in the European Journal of Nutrition. The researchers involved 140 obese or overweight adults between the ages of 25 to 65 years. These participants were questioned after each snacking.
Upon analysis, the researchers found no major difference in the number of calories consumed in people who snacked on just almonds and those who ate carb-rich snacks. In addition, obesity is linked to a series of serious health problems, ranging from stroke to heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and even certain types of cancer.

“Only a handful of studies have previously tested the role of dry fruits specifically nut consumption in appetite control. Additionally, two recent studies with walnuts and pistachios have also reported similar findings to our research work. However, not all studies have reported the beneficial effects. of nut consumption on appetite-regulating hormones with different responses. This is because of the differences in study design and the health status of participants who were involved in the trials,” said Alison Coates, Ph.D., study author.
Although, the study did not find that almonds are helpful in making people feel fuller for longer or eat less, dry fruits or nuts and not just almonds still remain a valuable source of nutrition and should be incorporated into our everyday diet.
