Broken Blood Vessel
Many a time, the red spot on your eye can be due to the bursting of a tiny blood vessel. This is known as a subconjunctival haemorrhage. In this condition, small blood vessels break open and blood moves beneath the conjunctiva, the transparent coating that covers the sclera, the white part of the eyeball.
In extreme cases, when a larger blood vessel breaks, the blood can spread across the entire white portion of the eye. However, the majority of people do not experience any pain, irritation, or sensitivity to light.
The cause of this condition can be constipation, heavy lighting, straining too much, trauma, hypertension, or diabetes.

Diabetes can also cause red spots developing in your eye. Among people who have different types of diabetes, diabetic retinopathy is the common cause of vision loss. As the name goes, this harms the retina of the eye. Diabetic retinopathy results in the bleeding of retinal blood vessels. However, spots on the retina cannot be spotted on your own. This is because the retina is located at the back of your eye. In such situations, an examination by a doctor is a must.
Disorders of blood
Blood disorders like sickle cell, which is characterized by anemia and intermittent pain, can cause a red spot in your eye. Sickle cell disease is a hereditary bleeding disorder and a person suffering from it can have abnormal blood vessels of the conjunctiva. This happens due to the sickling effect on the red blood cells in the tiny blood vessels, which leads to blockages.
